May 2016 Marks Busiest Month on Record at Nashville International Airport

Best month in BNA history with more than 1.1 million passengers, breaks 24-year-old record

NASHVILLE ─ The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) today announced May 2016 was the busiest month on record at Nashville International Airport (BNA) with more than 1.1 million passengers travelling through the facility, a 3.7 percent increase over the previous monthly record.

The previous record was set at the peak of the American Airlines hub at BNA when 1,129,613 people traveled through the airport in July 1992.

“Like Nashville itself, BNA is booming,” said Rob Wigington, MNAA president and CEO. “We’ve expanded air service with new airlines and added additional service to new and existing markets, all of which helps drive regional growth and serves the needs of our travelers and visitors. It’s clear we’re headed for another record fiscal year.”

In May 2016, 1,172,109 passengers travelled through BNA, a 12.8 percent increase from May 2015. May 2016 also marks five consecutive months of more than a million passengers. This is also a new record, with the previous record being four consecutive months in 2015. May 2016 marks 68 of 70 months of year-over-year passenger growth.

Nashville International Airport has set passenger records each of the past two fiscal years (July 1 to June 30), with FY 2015 exceeding 11.2 million passengers, a 5.4 percent increase over the previous fiscal year.

BNA is currently served by 12 airlines and offers 390 daily flights. Nashville International Airport provides nonstop air service to more than 50 destinations.
