May 2018 Top Passenger Month in BNA History

Torrid growth continues with more than 1.4 million passengers in May; near-record departures following music festivals

NASHVILLE – Nashville International Airport (BNA) set a new monthly record for total number of passengers with 1,418,316 passengers in May 2018, an eight percent increase over the previous record set in June 2017.
The current single-day record for screened passenger was also set in May 2018 with 25,795 passengers on May 6.

CMA Fest and Bonnaroo Numbers

With the closing of the 2018 CMA Music Fest and Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, BNA anticipated heavy passenger volumes. On Monday, June 11, 25,261 departing passengers were screened at BNA, a slight increase from the comparable Monday in 2017, and just short of the one-day record of 25,795 screened passengers set on May 6, 2018.

In anticipation of the increased passenger volume, the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and Transportation Security Administration both added additional personnel on-site at BNA throughout the weekend, resulting in security screening times never exceeding 10 minutes. BNA recently added two security screening lanes for a total of 12 lanes to better accommodate travelers as passenger volumes continue to rise.

On average, approximately 19,000 departing passengers are screened at BNA per day.
