Nashville International Airport Posts Strong 3rd Quarter for FY 2017
NASHVILLE – The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) today announced the results and highlights of the third quarter of its 2017 fiscal year, which spanned from January through March 2017, and was characterized by continued strong growth in passenger traffic at Nashville International Airport (BNA).
By the numbers:
- BNA served more than 3 million passengers in the three-month period marking the third quarter, a robust 11.4 percent increase in passenger traffic over the same quarter in Fiscal Year 2016
- Fiscal Year 2017 year-to-date passenger increase at BNA is 11.2 percent over the previous three quarters of Fiscal Year 2016
- January, February and March each marked the busiest corresponding months on record
- Year-over-year passenger growth for 78 of the past 80 months
“Passenger traffic at BNA continues to increase at an unprecedented rate and shows no signs of slowing down,” said Rob Wigington, MNAA president and CEO. “These numbers only reemphasize the need for BNA Vision, our growth and expansion plan. We have to make the needed renovations to ensure our airport can handle the current and future increase in passengers and airlines and remain ‘Nashville-friendly’ and customer service focused. We are truly building for the future.”
In 2016, 12.9 million passengers traveled into and out of BNA, an increase of more than one million passengers representing a robust 11 percent increase over the previous year, and setting a new all-time passenger record for the fourth consecutive calendar year.

Also in the third quarter, MNAA announced the following new air service:
- WestJet will begin twice weekly nonstop service to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, beginning May 4, 2017;
- Delta Air Lines to offer daily nonstop service to Seattle beginning May 26, 2017 and twice daily service to Raleigh-Durham beginning June 12, 2017;
- Southwest Airlines expands to offer daily nonstop service to Minneapolis beginning June 4, 2017; and
- Alaska Airlines, flying its newly acquired Virgin America brand, will begin daily service to San Francisco beginning Sept. 5, 2017.
BNA is currently served by 12 airlines and offers 440 daily flights. Nashville International Airport provides nonstop air service to more than 50 destinations.
