Airport Authority Announces Board Appointment

NASHVILLE – The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) today announced the appointment of Joycelyn A. Stevenson to its Board of Commissioners. Executive Director of the Tennessee Bar Association, Stevenson was nominated to the board by Mayor John Cooper and confirmed by Metro Council at the June 16 Council meeting. She fills the board seat previously held by Dr. A. Dexter Samuels, who served as chair from 2018-2020 and as a board member since 2007.

Ms. Stevenson joins the MNAA Board of Commissioners as its Neighborhood representative. Prior to her role at the Tennessee Bar Association, she was a shareholder at Littler Mendelson, P.C. and partner at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, LLP, both Nashville law firms. She is a long-time leader in the state’s legal community, serving as president of both the Nashville Bar Association and the Lawyers’ Association for Women—Marion Griffin Chapter. Ms. Stevenson is a board member of the National Association of Bar Executives and was a fellow of the Tennessee Bar Association and Nashville Bar Association. She was the 2017 recipient of the Napier Looby Bar Association’s J.C. Napier Trailblazing Award and was previously recognized with a Nashville Chamber Emerging Leaders Award, a Nashville Athena Young Professionals Award, and the Nashville Business Journal’s 40 under 40 award. She has also served as president of the Council on Aging of Greater Nashville and secretary of the Nashville Farmer’s Market Board.

Ms. Stevenson succeeds Dr. Samuels, who was appointed in 2007 and served as chair, vice chair and secretary during his of 13 years of service.

MNAA Board of Commissioners

A 10-member Board of Commissioners appointed by the mayor of Nashville/Davidson County, and confirmed by the Metropolitan Council, governs the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. By statute, the board is composed of three business and finance representatives, two pilot representatives, two neighborhood representatives, one engineering representative, one legal representative, and the mayor.
