Arts at the Airport and Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival® Announce Winners of the Sixth Annual Bonnaroo-Themed Skylight Exhibition at BNA

NASHVILLE – Nashville International Airport (BNA), Arts at the Airport, the Bonnaroo Works Fund (BWF) and the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival® are proud to announce the sixth annual Bonnaroo-themed skylight exhibition at BNA. The exhibition features the works of four artists through Jan. 19, 2010: J. Andrew Harding, Nicholas Meyer, Gabriela Noelle and Lily Reeves.

An opening reception will be held Monday, April 8, 2019, from 4 to 6 p.m. The reception is open to the public and will be held at the Concourse C Waiting Lounge, near Starbucks on Level 3 (Departures level, pre-security). Once again this year, the exhibition is funded by Arts at the Airport and the Bonnaroo Works Fund, the charitable arm of the internationally acclaimed festival. BWF supports national and regional organizations that advance the arts, education and the environment, with a focus on local reinvestment.

“Bonnaroo’s founding mission is to emphasize the impact the festival has on creativity in both the visual and live performance arts,” said Jeff Cuellar, director of Bonnaroo community relations. “Arts at the Airport is a showcase of cultural diversity and creative talent in Tennessee, and we’re proud to have the festival represented on such a grand scale.”

The four winning entries were selected by a jury composed of members of the Bonnaroo team and Arts at the Airport Board of Directors. The winners were selected based on artistic quality and communication of the Bonnaroo brand to both new and familiar audiences.

The winning entries are suspended from the ceiling in four skylights located in Concourses B and C, and will be on display through Jan. 19, 2020. Each winning artist received a $4,500 honorarium.

Andy Harding is a sculptor living and working in Nashville, Tenn. His work touches on themes ranging from quantum physics to Eastern philosophy. Curiosity about matter led Harding to study chemistry and physics in college, but he soon began searching for ways to explore these interests through art. His practice invites contemplation about not only the nature of our world, but our place in it. Harding is represented by Tinney Contemporary gallery in Nashville, Tenn.

Nico Meyer is a structural engineer and sculptor exploring concepts that call viewers to question their relationship with the world using mathematical and geometrical forms. Meyer’s work attempts to illuminate aspects of the human experience like our heightened ability for pattern recognition, which can lead to oversimplification and categorical thinking.

Gabriela Noelle is a multi-dimensional installation artist from Miami, Fla. Noelle’s work celebrates the provocative relationship between adolescence and adulthood, Earth and man, and the natural and the synthetic. She compares her medium, lucite, to a blank slate with the ability to turn intangible transparency into a tactile substance, casting shadows and reflections that transcend its physical presence and that allude to an ethereal dimension of possibility and potential.

Lisa Reeves earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University and a Master of Fine Arts at Arizona State University in Phoenix, Ariz., where she graduated in April 2018. Reeves’ public work is in the permanent collections of The University of Montevallo, Alfred University, Salem Art Works and Franconia Sculpture Park, as well as private collections around the world.

Arts at the Airport
The Arts at the Airport (AaA) program showcases the region’s visual and performing arts. AaA is governed by a 15-member Arts at the Airport Foundation board, is funded primarily by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and receives some funding from the Tennessee Arts Commission. The award-winning Arts at the Airport program reviews and presents works by local, regional and national artists for the enjoyment and enrichment of BNA’s passengers and visitors. In addition to visual art, Arts at the Airport includes live music performances on stages throughout BNA’s passenger terminal.

Arts at the Airport, a 501(c)(3) organization, receives funding for the visual arts from the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and the Tennessee Arts Commission (TAC). The Flying Solo Exhibition Series is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Arts Commission and the State of Tennessee.
