Arts at the Airport: Winter Flying Solo Exhibits Open Today

NASHVILLE – The winter installment of the Flying Solo series at Nashville International Airport (BNA) opens today and features the eclectic works of Jeff Brockett, Jennifer Printz, Colleen Williams and Contemporary Collective.

Each season, the Flying Solo series offers arts organizations and gifted artists an opportunity to exhibit their work at BNA. The Winter 2020 exhibits, which run from Dec. 6 through Feb. 23, 2020, are part of BNA’s Arts at the Airport program.

Below are brief biographies of the featured artists and their work:

Jeff Brockett
Art Case, Concourse C Waiting Lounge (pre-security)
Jeff Brockett is a retired retail executive who lives in Mt. Juliet and who has been making sawdust for over 40 years. His love of working with wood was heavily influenced by his father. After seeing a woodturning demonstration at a Tennessee Craft Arts and Crafts Fair, Jeff embarked on his woodturning journey.

Colleen Williams
Art Case, Concourses A/B Waiting Lounge (pre-security)
A New Jersey native, Colleen Williams relocated from the Berkshires of Massachusetts to Chattanooga four years ago. She has studied and exhibited artwork in a variety of media from an early age, but her journey in the ceramic medium began after college at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Her sculptures are slab-built, structured, hollow forms of porcelain with colored porcelain slip decoration over drawings of pattern, in wax resist. www.colleenwilliamsclay.com

Contemporary Collective

The Contemporary Collective is an established group of Nashville-area abstract artists who have been working together since 2012. They represent a variety of ages, styles, approaches and motivations for painting. www.contemporarycollectivenashville.com

Jennifer Printz
Art Wall, Concourses A/B Waiting Lounge (pre-security)
Jennifer Printz boldly declared at the age of 5 that she wanted to grow up and be an artist. The proof is in her kindergarten “me” book where she drew herself at an easel wearing black Mary Janes while painting a massive rainbow. With a continued interest in great shoes and the dedication to making art, Jennifer is living her dream. Beyond her studio practice, Jennifer is also an educator who has honed her skills in a variety of classroom situations from museums to large public research universities. Arts at the Airport
Working closely with the 15-member Arts at the Airport Foundation board, BNA’s Arts at the Airport showcases the region’s visual and performing arts. The award-winning Arts at the Airport program reviews and presents works by local, regional and national artists for the enjoyment and enrichment of BNA’s passengers and visitors. In addition to visual art, Arts at the Airport includes music, an integral part of Nashville. The arts come alive with musical performances on stages throughout BNA’s passenger terminal.
