Winter Flying Solo Exhibits Arrive at Nashville International Airport®
Celebrated rotating art exhibit features art quilts and paintings
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (February 10, 2023) – The Winter installment of the “Flying Solo” series at BNA® is now open and features the gorgeous artwork of Donna Woodley, JoEl Levy LoGiudice, and Tennessee Craft Midstate.
The Flying Solo series is an esteemed rotating art exhibit that offers art organizations and gifted artists an opportunity to exhibit their work at BNA each season. The Winter 2023 exhibit, which is open now through March 27, 2023, is a part of BNA’s Arts at the Airport program.
Created in 1988, BNA’s Arts at the Airport is an ever-growing, ever-changing showcase of cultural diversity and creative talent in Tennessee. The terminal and surrounding facilities were designed to incorporate rotating public art exhibits and permanent acquisitions, and opportunities for live entertainment performances throughout the airport.
A brief biography of the featured artists and their work is as follows:
Donna Woodley

Donna Woodley is a visual artist whose work primarily explores Black culture and its significance and presence within American culture. Informed by stereotypes, cultural similarities and differences, perceptions of beauty, mental and physical health, and esteem, Woodley’s work often uses humor to open the door to healthy dialogue. Woodley has an extensive exhibition history, including the award-winning group show “We Count: First Time Voters at The Frist Art Museum.” As a professor of art at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Woodley enjoys helping students on their journey to become great artists. She is a resident of Nashville, where she is a practicing artist and active in the art community.
JoEl Levy LoGiudice

JoEl Levy LoGiudice moved to Nashville in 1984 to work at Vanderbilt University. During her tenure at Vanderbilt, she engaged in the arts administration field with positions as Director of Sarratt Gallery, Curator of the Holocaust Art Collection and Director of the Office of Arts and Creative Engagement. In addition, she has taught weaving and fiber art workshops at art conferences, weavers guilds, and at various schools, including the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville, Tenn., Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tenn., John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C. and The Clearing Folk School in Ellison Bay, Wis. LoGiudice’s artwork has been exhibited throughout the Southeast. She continues to be actively involved in professional arts organizations, currently serving as President of Tennessee Craft.

Tennessee Craft, formerly the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists (TACA), works to create and continue Tennessee’s fine craft tradition. With more than 500 members throughout the state, Tennessee Craft serves as the premier connecting point for local, independent makers and their audiences through craft fairs, exhibitions, professional development, networking, mentorship and other educational programs. Tennessee Craft Midstate is a chapter of Tennessee Craft that encompasses Stewart, Montgomery, Robertson, Sumner, Trousdale, Houston, Cheatham, Humphreys, Dickson, Davidson, Wilson, Williamson and Rutherford counties.
Additionally, a call for artists for the next “Flying Solo” exhibits is now open. There are several new exhibition spaces due to the recent BNA Vision construction and renovation projects at the Airport. Six spaces will accommodate two-dimensional artwork, and three spaces that will exhibit three-dimensional work. The application deadline is March 1, 2023.
