Nashville International Airport® to Host “BNA® 5K on the Runway” Saturday, Aug. 21, on Newly Reconstructed Runway

Proceeds to Benefit Nonprofits Tunnel to Towers Foundation and Urban League of Middle Tennessee

NASHVILLE – Registration is underway for Nashville International Airport’s “BNA® 5K on the Runway,” an event that invites runners and walkers to do just that—complete a 5K race on a newly reconstructed airport runway.

Proceeds from the popular event, to be held on Saturday, Aug. 21, will benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Urban League of Middle Tennessee. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation provides military, first responders, veterans and their families with mortgage-free homes. The Urban League of Middle Tennessee works tirelessly to elevate standards of living of historically underserved groups through training and mentoring initiatives among other programs.

“What a great way to have fun while raising funds for the Urban League of Middle Tennessee and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation,” said Doug Kreulen, president and CEO of BNA. “As we approach the 20th anniversary of 9/11, we wanted to pay tribute to the heroes who responded to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the loss of Flight 93. At the same time, we also want to celebrate the outstanding contributions of the Urban League of Middle Tennessee.”

“We encourage the community to come out to BNA to run, walk or stroll down our beautiful new runway to support these organizations—and you won’t find a flatter course in town. Thank you to Hi-Way Paving, the general contractor, and designers Garver and Atkins North America for completing this $62 million project on time and under budget.”

The race will take place on Runway 2R/20L, which was closed for planned reconstruction in April 2020 and will reopen officially to aircraft shortly after the event concludes.

BNA® 5K on the Runway will have a limited number of spaces, so participants are encouraged to register early before the event sells out. For more information and to register, visit flynashville.com/BNA5K.
