Nashville International Airport to Conduct Full-scale Airport Emergency Preparedness Drill May 2
NASHVILLE – Nashville International Airport (BNA) will conduct a full-scale airport emergency preparedness drill on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to noon. BNA advises members of the public that the visible aircraft, emergency vehicles and other equipment will be for staging a simulation of an aircraft accident and will not be associated with an actual emergency situation.
BNA’s Department of Public Safety developed a scenario of two airplanes colliding on the runway. There will be more than 100 volunteers onsite acting as victims from the crash, along with real fire, smoke and explosions. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations mandate airports to conduct full-scale emergency exercises every three years, with annual tabletop exercises in the off years. The exercise will test the effectiveness of the response plans and procedures of the airport and participating federal, state, local and community agencies.
