CALEA
The Department of Public Safety at Nashville International Airport® (BNA®) has been fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) since 1996. BNA was the first airport in North America to have its Department of Public Safety become CALEA certified and is now one of only thirteen (13) airports that are accredited.
- CALEA Accreditation Public Comment Portal
- The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding an agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide the participating agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.
- IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgement to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.

An accreditation specialist oversees department compliance and record maintenance. The department is a member of the Law Enforcement Accreditation Coalition of Tennessee (LEACT).
The department adheres to all hiring, training, and performance standards established by the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training Commission (POST). All new officers receive training at both the Tennessee State Fire and Police Academies, and a sixteen-week Field Training Officer (FTO) program.
