Movement Area Training

MOVEMENT AREA TRAINING
Promoting Safety. Preventing Incursions. Navigating with Confidence.
At Nashville International Airport (BNA®), our Movement Area Training (MAT) is designed to ensure that every authorized driver understands the critical protocols for operating vehicles on the movement area.
This training initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to reducing runway incursions and surface incidents, promoting situational awareness and maintaining the highest standards of airfield safety.
The training covers rules for vehicle and pedestrian operations, radio communication and distinguishing movement and non-movement areas.
KEY ASPECTS OF TRAINING
Runway Incursions
The fundamental goal is to prevent runway incursions, defined as any unauthorized presence of a vehicle, person or object in the movement area.
Airport Layout
Knowing the location and purpose of various airfield areas, including the distinction between movement and non-movement areas.
Navigational Aids
Understanding different types of airfield signs, markings and lighting, especially during low-visibility conditions.
Radio Communication
Learning proper radio communication, including the phonetic alphabet and essential aviation terminology, to coordinate with Air Traffic Control (ATC).
Vehicle Operations
Rules for vehicle operation, such as maintaining proper distance from aircraft and safe operating speeds.
Requirements for Movement Area Training
SIDA Badge
Individuals must hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge with an Air Operations Area (AOA) endorsement to gain unescorted access to the movement area. The AOA endorsement will be activated only after the individual has successfully completed their final check ride.
Operational Needs
Personnel must have a legitimate operational need to access the movement area and receive approval from the airport authority.
Vehicle Equipment
Vehicles are required to display flashing yellow and white lights. Light bars are preferred because they are larger and provide greater visibility.
Recurrent Training
Annual recurrent training is mandatory to preserve access and privileges. This training consists exclusively of the Part 139 Interactive Employee Training (IET) videos.
