Embracing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The ongoing success of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) would not be possible without vital assistance from a diverse and inclusive group of businesses, vendors and other stakeholders that reflect the full range of our community.

At BNA we are committed to promoting, encouraging and stimulating economic inclusion initiatives across the Middle Tennessee region. These are top priorities at the airport and the focus of the programs and activities directed by MNAA’s Office of Business Diversity Development (BDD).

Office of Business Diversity Development

As you’ll see when visiting the BDD area of this website, the office administers a variety of economic inclusion programs and services at Nashville International Airport® and John C. Tune Airport®. Launched in 2002, the Small, Minority, Woman-Owned Business Enterprise program (SMWBE) provides maximum opportunities for SMWBEs to participate in contracts, programs and all related business activities funded by BNA and JWN. The office also provides training, events, certification, monitors contract compliance, a mentor/protégé program and much more.

An example of the impact of MNAA’s SMWB programs is seen in the participation of such business enterprises in our BNA® Vision program. BNA® Vision is the airport’s dynamic renovation and expansion plan to meet the needs of the area’s robust passenger growth.

Concessions Program

MNAA’s extensive concessions program at BNA®, as the airport is also called, is another area where our commitment to diversity and inclusion is focused and effective. The new concessions program showcases local flavor and flair, with an emphasis on opportunities for SMWBE businesses.

Workforce Training

BNA actively supports the Nashville Promise Zone initiative and its goal of providing job opportunities for residents of six federally designated “Promise Zones.” By working closely with partners such as the Urban League of Middle Tennessee, Empower the Journey, 4:13 Strong, Goodwill and others, BNA provides on-site training and employment opportunities for these Promise Zone workers. BNA Vision projects are powered by a local workforce that ranges from 59%-86% of the overall project.

Another innovative initiative designed to advance the workforce is BNA’s Maintenance Apprenticeship Program, which is a partnership with the Tennessee College of Applied Technology to provide classroom training, employment and on-the-job training in skilled trades.

Community Involvement

BNA is proud to be a member of local civic and business organizations that connect, empower and advocate. Examples include the Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce, Urban League of Tennessee, Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce, Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Nashville LGBT Chamber and the Airport Minority Advisory Council.
